Over the past 15 years, nearly 150 national and/or regional green certification programs have operated to measure quantitatively or through a green check-list process various sustainability aspects related to a commercial enterprises and their supply chain. 

In the hotel industry alone, 7,000 are currently certified as being ‘green/sustainable’.  To varying degrees, the certification programs would include sustainable handling/use of electricity, water, waste and/or social programs for the community, in their certification criteria or standards, which can number dozens to 200.  In order to tie together these disparate certification programs under one common measurement and disclosure platform, working with the certification organizations, travel industry associations, NGOs, UN organizations, Sustainability Intelligence Ltd., has been en-trusted to create and manage the global Sustainability Index program for one global common sustainability measurement and disclosure for any business and their supply chain. 

The objective is to build consumer trust, learning and support for sustainable businesses, in terms of their commitment towards sustainable use/handling of electricity, water, waste and community/social causes…and filter out the ‘greenwashers’.

What you will find on this web site are business establishments (hotels initially) who have been recognized by what the industry recognize as legitimate green/sustainability rating/certification organizations.  

Each establishment or their rating/certification organization is given 3 months, cost free, to enter or transfer their data unto the common global Sustainability Index system, or face de-listing from our Green Sustainability Index.

It is commonly agreed today amongst travel industry associations, NGOs, UN organizations, that the reversal of climate change and support for the UN Millennium Goals, is to engage a broad base of commercial and government enterprises on their path towards sustainability, not just the current few thousand who have. 

In parallel, and arguably, even more important is to educate and shape consumer demand and support for the enterprises moving towards sustainability...initially through financial rewards (i.e. lower prices and/or higher value).
